FIELD: control of underground fires. SUBSTANCE: method involves injecting additional indicator gas nonspecific for the process of combustion, for example sulfur hexafluoride, into the mined-out space of series of beds, beginning from lower bed and passing gradually to upper one from the side of air entrance thereinto. The anomalies caused by injected gas are determined on the surface while depth of center is found as a distance from the surface to the bed which, being filled with indicator, produces anomaly of this gas in subsurface layer, coinciding with the anomaly of fire gases above vertical projection of fire center. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 2 cl, 1 dwg
