FIELD: fabricating ceramic composite articles. SUBSTANCE: raw blank from a base metal of the group Ti, Sn, Si, Zr, Hf and aluminium alloy is placed in the atmosphere of a gas oxidizer and heated to a temperature which exceeds the melting point of the metal but is less than that of its oxidation product. Then the blank is held so that the base metal and its oxidation products can migrate in the direction of the oxidizing gas. A specially shaped article is positioned in the migration path the article being from the second metal which melting point is equal to or less than the oxidation reaction temperature of the base metal. The metals can enter into reactions which products are alloys or intermetallic compounds. Holding is completed after forming a cavity replacing the second metal being dispersed into a ceramic body having 1 - 40 percent (by volume metal phase. Before heating can begin at least one surface of the base metal is brought into contact with an inert fireproof filler positioned so that its oxidation reaction product can migrate into its intergranular space. The base metal being aluminium having at least one alloying component from the group of Mg, Zn, Si, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni the second metal being Fe, Ni, Cr or their alloys. Heating is performed at a temperature of up to 850 - 1450 C, preferably 900 - 1350 C. The article made from the second metal can have a coating of Cr2O3, NiO, SiC, Al2O3, the oxidizer being an oxygen-containing gas, in particular, air, or a nitrogen-containing gas.
