FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method provides for (0.33 - 0.48) D/h roller low-temperature tempering before it is put in operation, work of roller in stand and periodical break, that includes heating with speed of 25 - 80 C/h, endurance under temperature of 160 - 190 C during (13 - 17) N/h and cooling with speed of 10 - 60 C/h (D is diameter of roller drum, mm; N - number of roller operating periods; h - hour). Rest is repeated in every 3 - 8 roller operating periods. As the result of the mode of roller exploitation, level of residual tensions, left in the roller after its manufacture, and level of residual working tensions are decreased. Submicroscopic cracks, formed during the roller exploitation, are cured. The roller durability increases due to decrease of settle in layers and roller active layer crumbling away. EFFECT: method ensures increase of roller operational durability.
