FIELD: rolling, operation of cold and hot rolling mills. SUBSTANCE: roll used in stand of rolls after 1-7 runs periodically is subjected to forced recovery including heating, holding and cooling. Holding is performed in two stages: at temperature (0.29-0.44) Ac3 for 10-180 min, and at temperature (0.16-0.23) Ac3 for 2-36 h where temperature Ac3 is taken for material of working surface of roll. Holding at higher temperature may precede holding at lower temperature and vice versa. EFFECT: increased wear resistance of roll by reduction of chipping and spalling of surface of roll barrel. 4 cl, 1 tbl
