FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: sulfuric acid is prepared from waste gases containing sulfur dioxide, O2 and moisture by converting sulfur dioxide to sulfuric acid via passing waste gases through plasma zone that is generated by pulsed linearly-stabilized surface discharge, with duration of discharge current pulse being of 1-100 mcs. Specific energy applied to pulsed discharge is of 103-105 J per m of interelectrode space. EFFECT: increased sulfur dioxide conversion. 1 dwg, 1 tbl
