FIELD: foundry practice. SUBSTANCE: the apparatus comprises container 6 filled with metal treated by the electro-slag technique, mould 1 held fast to plunger 2 having an axial hollow space communicating with the mould cavity, guiding means 10 and drive 3 imparting motion to the plunger with the mould. For filling in succession the mould with the metal refined by the electro-slag technique and the runner with the slag, a tubular member is provided inside plunger 2 with provision for vertical displacement. The tubular member exceeds in length the plunger by hшл+ (5-10) + (5 to 10)), where hшл is the thickness of the slag in the container in mm. Grooves at the bottom of the tubular member serve to accommodate a meltable plug made from the modifying agent. The plunger is of a volume enabling all the metal to be expelled from the container. The casting takes its shape in the course of forcing the molten metal into the mould cavity due to the contact of the plunger with the container. Once the mould cavity is filled, the plunger feeds the rest of the slag so that the solidification takes place under pressure. EFFECT: improved quality of castings. 1 cl, 3 dwg
