FIELD: electrical engineering; lighting devices. SUBSTANCE: method of supply comes to the following: pulsed voltage positive relative to lamp cathode is applied to lamp electrodes. Value of pulsed voltage exceeds value of lamp lighting at constant; at pulse intervals voltage is applied to lamp electrodes, positive relative to its cathode, whose value is less than pulsed voltage, but is greater than lamp go-off voltage; duration of action of pulsed voltage is less than time of thermal diffusion of atoms across arc channel, and time between voltage pulses is greater than time of thermal diffusion of atoms across arc channel at pulse period-to-pulse duration ratio not exceeding 10. EFFECT: increased brightness of high-pressure and extra high-pressure gaseous discharge lamps by increasing number of atoms in arc channel at preserved service life of lamps. 1 dwg
