FIELD: lighting engineering. SUBSTANCE: light source of high brilliance is made of case with transparent screen that carries current-conducting layer with luminophor applied to it and cathode located inside case. Cathode is flat. Gauze anode is placed at certain distance between cathode and screen and case is filled with working gas. Working gas can be inert gas or mixture of inert gases. Cathode and anode can be manufactured of low-sputtered materials. Cathode can be gauze and additional screen carrying current-conducting layer with luminophor applied to it can be positioned on side of cathode. High- efficiency photoluminophor can be used in the capacity of luminophor. Pressure of working gas and excitation parameters should be chosen optimal for initiation of ultraviolet radiation of working gas. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of light source. 5 cl, 3 dwg
