SUBSTANCE: invention is related to gas-discharge lamps of high and ultra-high pressure. In a short-arc gas-discharge lamp of high and ultra-high pressure, the anode surface facing the cathode is made in form of an ellipsoidal surface with the coordinate τ of ellipsoidal coordinates lying in the range - 0.8<τ<0 with cathode coordinate τ0<0, and for predominant radiation in the ultraviolet and infrared regions of the spectrum, it is made in form of an ellipsoidal surface with the coordinate τ of ellipsoidal coordinates lying in the range 0<τ <0.8 with cathode coordinate τ0 < 0.
EFFECT: increase in efficiency of generation of optical radiation in a selected region of the spectrum.
