FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: catalyst with a porous supporting structure on the basis of aluminium oxide, on whose surface layer, 300 to 400 microns thick, cerium at a concentration of 4.7 to 9.4 % of the supporting structure mass is applied; concentration of cerium in the supporting structure beyond the surface layer is about zero or equals zero. The thickness of the surface layer containing cerium is constant. The method of production of catalyst consists in impregnation of the supporting structure surface layer of aluminium oxide with a colloidal solution of cerium hydroxynitrite with pH = 0.5-1 at a concentration of cerium oxide in the solution within 52 to 78.3 g/l, with subsequent drying and thermal treatment.
