FIELD: cooling of ingots by installations of curvilinear type with rectilinear, radial and curvilinear sections of process line. SUBSTANCE: specific flow rates of coolant over opposite faces of ingot are set to be similar in the process of continuous casting on rectilinear section. Specific flow rates of coolant over the face located on the side of small radius are higher than those on the side of large radius by 5 - 30 per cent at the end of bending section, and are increased by rectilinear low. This difference is decreased by rectangular low until specific flow rates of coolant over opposite faces of ingot in the beginning of curvilinear section are equal on radial section. Specific flow rates of coolant over the face located on the side of large radius are increased by rectilinear low up to 10 to 40 per cent at the end of this section as to flow rates of coolant over the face located on the side of small radius. Temperature gradients and thermal stresses of the same magnitude are arisen within allowable limits on opposite faces of ingot shell due to changing specific flow rates of coolant over opposite faces on ingot bending section, radial section and ingot unbending section. Bending stresses over ingot faces become equal. EFFECT: internal and external cracks are not initiated under conditions like those. 1 tbl
