FIELD: medicine, microbiology, surgery. SUBSTANCE: venous blood samples were taken in children. Isotonic sodium chloride solution is added to sample at the ratio 1:3, and a mixture is placed into two tubes following by incubation of mixture at 37 C for 4 h in the first tube, and for 18 h in the second one. Then samples were centrifuged, supernatant is diluted with distilled water at the ratio 1:4, and potassium ions content is determined in solution prepared. Ratio of this index in the second tube to the first one is calculated. Sepsis is diagnosed at value of this ratio 4 or above. EFFECT: improved method of diagnosis. 1 tbl
