FIELD: technical underwater acoustics. SUBSTANCE: method of determination of depth of sea in submersible vehicle includes reception of acoustic signal in direction from sea bottom, conversion of acoustic oscillations into electric ones and computation of depth of sea with allowance for data from depth of submergence and velocity C of run of acoustic waves. Ambient sea noise exceeding in level own ship's noise is used as acoustic signal. Simultaneously with reception of acoustic signal from sea bottom ambient sea noise from its surface is received, spatial filtering of bottom and surface sea noises is conducted extracting sea noises from sections of surface and bottom directly above and under submerged vehicle. Mutual spectral processing of signals received from bottom and surface noises converted into electrical signals is conducted with extraction of real and imaginary parts of mutual energy spectrum and depth of sea is found by formula given in description of invention. Angle at which noise from sea surface is received is chosen from relation specified in description. Number of averagings during computation of real and imaginary components of mutual energy spectrum is determined by inequality presented in description.
