The method to check position of slideway members at installations of continuous metal casting includes monochromatic radiation directing to reflecting surface fastened at the casing of a slideway member, reflected radiation receiving, and received information processing. Radiation ray subdivision into four components is performed in the process of checking, radiation intensity is measured for any component, the values obtained are compared, and comparison results are used to move the slideway member toward the direction where difference between intensity values for components of the directed radiation is decreased. The device to check the position of slideway members at installations of continuous metal casting includes a source of continuous monochromatic radiation. optical reflector, radiation receiver and means to process and represent information. The optical radiator is installed on the casing of slideway member and is made in the form of tetrahedral conical prism, and radiation receivers are installed on the casing of slideway member just opposite faces of the prism and are made in the form of photoreceivers with focus lenses connected with a comparator and further with the unit of information representation.
