FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: metal is fed to a crystallizer, ingot is drawn out of the crystallizer, slag mixture is supplied to the metal meniscus in the crystallizer, the reciprocal motion is given to the crystallizer, the crystallizer walls are cooled with running water and are supported. The ingot in the zone of secondary cooling is directed with the aid of cut rollers with intermediate supports. The ingot surface is cooled with a cooling agent sprayed by pulverizers. The intensity of the ingot cooling is regulated. The roller shifting is measured relative to the technological axle. In the process of continuous casting the shifting of the intermediate support is determined. The specific expenditure of the cooling agent is increased by 10 - 30% of the operating value as soon as this shifting is exceeded up to the value of 0.0005 - 0.006 of the ingot thickness. The specific expenditure of the cooling agent is decreased up to the operating value at the consequent decrease of this shifting up to the value of 0.0001 - 0.002 of the ingot thickness. The specific expenditure of the cooling agent is changed at the length of the ingot under the crystallizer. The length is equal to the distance from the intermediate support to the lower face of the crystallizer. The distance makes up 0.5 - 5.0 of the ingot thickness. EFFECT: enhanced quality of continuously cast ingots. 1 tbl
