FIELD: internal combustion engines; testing and diagnosing faults of cylinder-piston groups and engine assemblies. SUBSTANCE: method is based on registration of engine rpms depending on time with each cylinder cut in and out in turn. Engine rpms are recorded successively in steps set within range from minimum to maximum speed at fixed load at each speed and results obtained are compared with standard values. Technical condition of each cylinder and engine assembly is judged from results of comparing. EFFECT: higher information content and reliability of condition checking, accelerated diagnosing of engine. 4 dwg
