FIELD: pharmacology. SUBSTANCE: product - chenodeoxycholic acid + lipid fraction containing cholesterol and fatty acid fraction. Yield is 71-76% (cholesterol). Reagent 1: bile gall of birds. Reagent 2: alkali. Reagent 3: mixture of ethanol and toluene at the ratio 0.25:1. After separation of lipid fraction cholesterol is isolated from extract. Hydrolysate is treated with mineral acid up to pH 1-3, and bipolar extractant is added - preferably ethanol, petroleum ether or hexane for fatty acid fraction isolation. Conversion of low-melting chenodeoxycholic acid with m. p. 120-128 C to the high-melting one with m. p. 160-164 C is carried out in weak alkali solution, acidification with mineral acid up to pH 4-4.5, following by its extraction with organic solvent, extract concentration and addition of low-polar solvent to residue and solution exposition at 6-2 C.
