FIELD: manufacture of graphite products. SUBSTANCE: this process includes such steps as oxidizing graphite with mixture of acid and oxidizer, washing, drying and heat-treating it in inert, oxidizing or reducing medium, taking off gases resulting from expansion of graphite, after termination of expansion till beginning of cooling of thermally expanded graphite, carrying out graphite cooling step in gas countercurrent, using either inert or reducing gas for cooling thermally expanded graphite in dehumidified gas.
