FIELD: engine engineering. SUBSTANCE: method allows for effect of constantly varying external conditions of operation of ships (head wind, ice, etc) and engineering condition of main Diesel (contamination of the turbo-compressor, air cooler, utilization of boil and etc) on heat thermal stress of the internal combustion engine. The value of the thermal stress during nominal operation is assumed as the safety permissible optimal value. The thermal stress at the real operation condition is compared with its value at the nominal power operation. Depending on the difference obtained, the rack of fuel pumps is set in the position depending on the permissible value of a given output power of the main Diesel. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of controlling.
