FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: method refers to measurement of physical values to determine refractive index and a number of other parameters of gas and fluid media functionally related to refractive index. For measurement of refractive index of fluid medium the latter is placed into bent section of light guide. Optical signal of specified intensity is fed to its input, optical signal is picked off at output of light guide and its intensity is converted into electric signal of proper amplitude. In process of measurement curvature of light guide bent is charged and amplitude of electric signal is compared with specified value of amplitude of threshold electric signal. Curvature radius of light guide bent is determined at moment of their matching which is used to estimate value of refractive index of fluid medium.
