FIELD: methods for production of magnetite powder applicable in copying technique. SUBSTANCE: method for production of magnetite includes mixing of iron oxide with reducing agent in form of iron powder; roasting in protective atmosphere at 740-840 C and holding at this temperature for 2-3 h; cooling and grinding of produced material. Method allows production of black magnetite powder with preset magnetic properties and definite bulk density and particle size suitable for use in production of xerographic developer. Initial raw material may be used in form of hematite ore and ore concentrates, and also iron oxide product of thermohydrolysis of spent pickling solution of metallurgical production. EFFECT: higher efficiency.
