FIELD: shipbuilding. SUBSTANCE: submersible water craft is provided with anchors, launchers 2 in which punches 3 are arranged and winches 7 with rope 8. Punch 3 has recess 11 filled with substance whose specific gravity is less than that of water. Tubes 6 of launcher 2 are mounted for rotation about horizontal axis 15. Shield-cover 16 of launcher 2 closes cut 17 in water craft hull when launcher 2 is secured for sea. Method of breaking ice consists in stabilizing the water craft by means of anchors, imparting positive buoyancy to punches and launching them for breaking ice by their head portion.
