FIELD: wood working. SUBSTANCE: method involves heating wire by electric current to hot state; imparting axial motion to wire in cutting zone and providing relative motion between wire and wood adapted for cutting, with wire motion speed at cutting zone exceeding wire and wood relative motion speed by at least five times and wire temperature at this zone being maintained at constant level. Apparatus has adjustable wire heating current source, wire pulling drive, wire and wood relative motion drive, multiple-channel wire pulling speed and wire-wood relative motion speed regulator connected with wire pulling drive and wire-wood relative motion drive. Regulator maintains wire pulling speed in wood cutting zone at the level exceeding wire-wood relative motion speed by at least five times. Current intensity setter is connected to current source control circuit to generate signal proportional to wire-wood relative speed.
