FIELD: metal working. SUBSTANCE: method involves exposing billet to shock wave generated during explosion of combustible gas mixture. Prior to exploding, gas mixture is subjected to pulsed compression and maintained in such state till explosion moment. Apparatus has die and explosion chamber with cavity divided into two sections by heavy wall. Both sections are provided with gas mixture supply fittings and detonation initiating members. Section adjacent to die has wall, where detector for actuation of detonation initiating member is built-in. EFFECT: increased efficiency and wider operational capabilities. 3 cl, 7 dwg
