FIELD: foundry. SUBSTANCE: method involves detecting defective portions by known control methods; carrying out mechanical selection of defective portions, with selection accuracy being controlled by exposing selected surface to heat source-welding arc by nonconsumable electrode in argon medium prior to welding this surface at high speed, with the surface being prevented from fusing. The surface is oxidized due to heating and insufficient protection (since protection is not provided at increased speed of welding arc), with defective portion edges and surface above cavities being oxidized more intensively as compared to metal without defects. Selection accuracy is judged from oxidized surface contrast and defective sites and nature are indicated. When defects are detected, repeated surface selection and oxidation by welding arc are carried out and followed by welding selected portion. Prior to welding oxidized selected surface is cleaned and final control process is conducted. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of ingots.
