FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: desired products have common formula R(COOH)2 where R is C10H6, (C6H4)2, (C6H4)2·X where X is SO2. CO is used as reagent 1, aromatic dihalide R Hal2 where R is as mentioned above being used as reagent 2. Their interaction is carried out in methanol medium at 55-63 C in the presence of carbonates or hydroxides of Na or K. Thus prepared esters are hydrolyzed, hydrolyzate being acidified, desired product being filtered. Cobalt carbonyl which contains 0.5-5.0 mass of cobalt is used as catalyst. Ethylene chlorohydrin is used as cocatalyst, molar ratio of ethylene chlorohydrin and cobalt carbonyl being (5.6-12.6):1. EFFECT: improves efficiency of method. 1 tbl
