FIELD: fire-fighting. SUBSTANCE: fire is suppressed by acting on burning flare 1 with flat supersonic impermeable gas jet 2. The plane of jet 2 is oriented across flare axis 4 to cut the burning part of said flare and suppress the flare before heated cloud 6 of substance and combustion products recede from jet 2 and before cooling of said cloud to a point below the ignition temperature of flare substance. Then the jet is lowered on flare mouth, fire centers below the extinguishing jet are suppressed and heated structures and surfaces around the mouth are cooled down to the temperatures which rule out ignition of the flare substance. In addition to gas jet 2, the burning flare is acted upon by fire-suppressing and cooling agents. A nozzle apparatus for shaping a flat jet has the form of supersonic nozzles installed in horizontally in line. Each nozzle may be other than flat. The areas of critical nozzle sections diminish in the direction away from the plane of symmetry of the nozzle apparatus. To compensate for reactive thrust and protect the device against the effect of the burning flare there are at least two additional nozzles disposed on the edge of a receiver and directed contrary to the nozzles which form the extinguishing jet. The critical section areas of additional nozzles become larger as they recede from the receiver plane of symmetry. The nozzle apparatus with the receiver is articulated to ends of pipes delivering working and auxiliary substances and made in the form of a pantograph.
