FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: method provides for measurements of level of petroleum product contained in reservoir, temperature of petroleum product and surrounding temperature, determination of actual volume of petroleum product taking into account its level and temperature, as well as surrounding temperature. Level of petroleum product contained in reservoir is measured with the aid of two ultrasonic level indicators provided with floats; these flow indicators differ from each other in volume and mass characteristics. Mass of petroleum product is determined from relationship
mV(1+2αδtc)•K/(H1-H2)
where V is actual volume of petroleum product contained in reservoir; α is coefficient of linear expansion of reservoir walls; dtc is difference of temperature of reservoir walls and surrounding temperature in measurement of volume and graduation of reservoir; K is proportionality coefficient and H1 and H2 are readings of the first and second level indicators, respectively. Information on density of petroleum product under test which is necessary for determination of its mass is obtained from difference of level indicator readings which depend on level of submergence of their floats in petroleum product. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 1 dwg
