FIELD: sea transport; cruising under conditions of ice compression in arctic regions. SUBSTANCE: during motion of icebreaker, ice is broken by her hull at relative bearing set depending on direction of wind and further motion is performed through path of broken ice; this relative bearing 6, 8 or 9 is set collinearly relative to direction of formation of ice hummocks 1, 2 or 3 lee-side at distance not lesser than 10 to 15 m from visible edge of each ice hummock.
