FIELD: medicine; pulmonology. SUBSTANCE: method for prophylaxis of postpneumoectomic pyothorax includes sanitation of pleural cavity by extracorporeal perfusion and sorption. In so doing, exudate is withdrawn from pleural cavity at the rate of 25-30 ml/min. Pleural exudate is passed through sorbent and returned to pleural cavity with its additional exposure to laser radiation (He-Ne) with wave length of 0.63 mcm and radiation dose of (2-2.5)x10(2-2,5)•10-2 j/ml for 23-25 min. EFFECT: reduced frequency of post- operative pyothorax.
