FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: straightening pencil comprises housing and hard alloy insert secured inside the housing. The insert is provided with cutting members made of a super-hard material. The cutting members are made up as a prism or cylinder made of a polycrystal material, the surfaces of them being covered with an adhesive layer. The height of the cutting members exceeds the maximum cross-section size at least by a factor of 1.5. The cutting members and the housing of the pencil can be axially alined as well as shifted with respect to each other in the radial or circumferential direction. The process of manufacturing of the pencil comprises cold pressing of a hard alloy mixture with cutting members made of a super-hard material, impregnating the blank obtained in a graphite mould with copper by heating the mould, and connecting the insert obtained with the preliminary prepared housing of the pencil.
