FIELD: gas purification. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to purification of exhaust gases from N2O in relatively mild conditions (moderate temperatures, small contact time) with no noxious side products' formation. Gas is freed from N2O by way of its breakdown in presence of a silicate catalyst at 250-800 C and contact time 0.05- 10 s. As silicate catalysts, high-silica zeolite of general formula yEI2On•x•Fe2O3•SiO2 are employed, where y = 10-5-5•10-2, x = 10-5-2•10-2, EI is at least one element from 2,3,4, and 5 period, and n is valency of element. Also employed may be iron-silicates of general formula xFe2O3•SiO2 where x = 10-5-2•10-2. EFFECT: avoided noxious side products' formation.
