METHOD FOR ELONGATING STUMPS OF FINGERS AND METACARRAL BONES Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: medicine, reconstructive surgery of hand. SUBSTANCE: after determining elongating and movable stumps of finger or metacarpal bone, palm feeding strip and rear feeding strip are formed in projection plane of stump to be moved, followed by effecting osteotomy across metacarpal bone being moved in proximal metaepiphysis region and by passing distractive spoke attached to external fixation apparatus. Thereafter, distal fragment of metacarpal bone being moved is distracted and, after elongating feeding strips, incisions are made in projection plane of stump being elongated on palm and on hand rear in such manner that these incisions would join incisions made during formation of feeding strips. Next, mobilized distracted stump fragment is moved on feeding strips onto stump to be elongated, followed by osteosynthesis of stump to be elongated and stump to be moved. Method can be applied to patients of all ages. EFFECT: possibility to shorten treatment time and to preserve mobility of joints after elongating stumps of finger.
