FIELD: protective coatings. SUBSTANCE: objective of invention is to apply metal oxide coating onto inert inorganic carriers employed for catalysts in petrochemistry, for purification of exhaust gases, afterburning of combustible admixtures, in production of semiconductor and integrated circuits. To form oxide metal layer on a carrier surface, 2-90 wt % of metal aluminium is introduced into carrier during molding operation. Aluminium is then transformed into aluminium nitride when calcined under nitrogen at 800-1500 C, whereupon carrier is successively treated with an alifatic alcohol or organic acid, inorganic alkali or acid solution, and metal alcoholate, dried, and further repeatedly treated in the same manner. After heat treatment at 450-1200 C a homogeneous metal oxide surface layer is obtained. EFFECT: improved quality of coating. 2 cl, 1 tbl
