FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of separation microporous membranes to be used for separation of such molecules as hydrogen, nitrogen, ammonia, water from each other and/or from small organic molecules such as alkanes, alkanoles, esters and ketones. Proposed silicon dioxide-based membrane features mean pore diameter smaller than 1.5 nm. Note here that 5 to 40% of Si-O-Si molecular links are substituted by groups of the following formula: Si-CmHn-Si, where m=1-8, n=2m, 2m-2, 2m-4, 2m-6 or 2m-8 if n≥2. Note here that 5 to 24% of Si-O-Si molecular links are substituted by groups of the following formula:

where m=1-8,n=2t, 2m-2, 2m-4, 2m-6 or 2m-8 if n≥2, p=0,1,2. Membrane is produced by acid-catalysed hydrolysis of relevant bis-silane precursor in presence of mono-silicon organic precursor to production of sol modified by silicon hydroxide or metal mixed hydroxide by sedimentation of modified silicon hydroxide or metal mixed hydroxide from said sol on mesoporous inorganic carrier, by drying and annealing at 200-400°C.
EFFECT: hydrothermally stable membrane.
