FIELD: freezing of red blood cells for long-time storage without affecting their properties. SUBSTANCE: method comprises step of centrifuging donor blood to separate red blood cells (erythrocytes) from plasma and thrombocytes until volume of globular mass of thrombocytes reaches at least 90%. Next red blood cells are transferred into freezing bag containing cosiethyl starch so that starch weight to volume of red blood cells is not more than 7%, preferably 6%. Device is made in form of frame adapted to accommodate bag filled with mixture to be frozen (liquid nitrogen). Frame consists of two arcuate perforated aluminium plates, flanges of which are bent in opposition to one another and represent guideways for planar-parallel displacement of plates. The latter are clamped together by clamping elements made of resilient material. EFFECT: method and device permit to store donor blood during long time periods for subsequent blood transfusion. 10 cl, 4 dwg
