FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: phenol or its derivatives are produced via gas phase oxidative hydroxylation of benzene or its derivatives with nitrogen monoxide at 225-450 C in presence of preliminarily activated zeolite catalyst. Activation is carried out at 350-950 C with steam or with steam-diluent gas mixture wherein steam concentration ranges from 3 to 100 mol %.
