FIELD: producing fresh water from sea water by distilling. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has many flat envelope-shaped members made from thin film material, such as thermoplastic film and located near other. These members work as heat exchangers between evaporating liquid flowing along outer surfaces of members and condensing steam directed inside member. Apparatus is provided with compressor for increasing the pressure and temperature of steam being generated before directing it inside members. Each envelope-shaped is divided inside into parallel steam passages running vertically from one end of member to its other end. Steam is fed to passages through hole available at upper end of each member. End strip of cellular structure may be fitted on upper end of each member. This strip includes parallel passages separated from one another by means of partitions. These passages are used to feed steam inside members over entire width of edge of member. Strip may also include passages formed similarly which are used to direct liquid for evaporation over entire surface of member and its width. End strip of cellular structure may be additionally fitted on lower end of member for accumulation of distillate and removal of nonevaporated liquid. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 9 cl, 6 dwg
