FIELD: deposition of protective coats on various metals. SUBSTANCE: invention refers to deposition of protective coats on such metals as titanium, zirconium, tantalum, aluminium, iron under mode of electric discharges to protect articles against high-temperature action of gas flows and molten metals. Invention can be used in foundry and mechanical engineering. Process of deposition of protective coats on metals includes machining in electrolyte under mode of electric discharges with application of alternating pulses: after 1-5 positive pulses 1-1O0 negative pulses are applied with amplitude of voltage of pulses of both polarities 50.0-1500.0 V. Relative pulse duration in supply of pulses is set equal to 2-50 with pulse duration 0.1-50.0 ms. For machining of alkaline electrolytes ratio of amplitude of voltage of positive pulses to amplitude of voltage of negative pulses is set equal to 1-30 and for machining in acidic and neutral electrolytes - 0.1-20.0.
