FIELD: engraving. SUBSTANCE: process refers to methods of formation of raised elements on surfaces of materials and holes with the aid of laser radiation and may find use in manufacture of printing plates. In agreement with process space between elements of pattern is schematically divided into two zone - surface and depth ones. Flux of laser radiation is modulated in time. Focused laser beam is directed on to machined surface of workpiece, is scanned over machined surface to manufacture specified outline. Rate of movement of laser beam is so chosen that layer of material which depth corresponds to required precision of formation of outline and profile of element of pattern is removed in one pass. Required profile of elements of pattern is formed by repetition of scanning procedure. For machining of depth zone power of laser radiation and rate of fly of laser beam are increased. Output power of laser, modulation of radiation flux in time and scanning rate are controlled with the aid of computer.
