FIELD: detection and ranging, passive methods of selection of airspace object against complex non-uniform background. SUBSTANCE: given method of selection of object against distant background is based on reception of radiation, oh formation of two images, on registration of formed images, on formation of differential image. Reception of radiation and formation of two images are carried out in two points O1, O2 spatially spaced apart, formed images are registered simultaneously, parallax displacement is determined by formation of mutually correlation function of two registered images and finding of position of its maximum. Displacement of one of registered images is conducted by value of parallax displacement of background in direction opposite to this displacement. Differential image is obtained by subtraction of mixed and second registered image. Regions of differential image having opposite signs are separated, size of fragments of regions in direction of parallax displacement of background is analyzed. Fragment having maximum size is isolated in each region. Coordinated of boundaries of isolated fragments of differential image are found. Coordinates of one of isolated fragments are changed by value of maximum size of given fragment in direction towards other fragment. Selector field limited by external boundaries of isolated fragments is formed. Subregion corresponding to selector field is chosen from corresponding registered image to obtain image of object.
