FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves forming reference and compared images using at least three identical video systems mounted at the required distance from each other relative a remote background, with parallel principal optical axes of lenses, while recording three images. The compared image and an additional compared image are then subtracted from the reference image to obtain two difference images. Object samples lying nearer than the remote background are selected on the difference images and the difference images are compared with each other; object samples are selected on the reference image and for each selected object sample, its match with object samples on the compared imaged is found. Distance to the objects is estimated from the determined value of parallax of the object samples.
EFFECT: higher accuracy of determining parallax of object samples and determining distance to multiple objects.
