FIELD: physics, optics.
SUBSTANCE: method relates to optical stereoscopic methods of locating an object in surrounding space. The area of interest of the surrounding space is observed using two wide-angle lenses at two points spaced apart. The principal optical axes of image transfer systems are directed such that they lie on the same line and face one side. Panoramic images are formed in the plane of a characteristic photodetector. The distance to an object is determined from the mutual arrangement of two of its images based on the difference of two recorded panoramic images.
EFFECT: high reliability, resolution and frame recording speed, which enables to determine location in surrounding space, in a circular monitoring area, of a moving small-size object on a non-uniform background.
