FIELD: physics, optics.
SUBSTANCE: method relates to optical stereoscopic methods of locating an object in surrounding space. The method includes receiving and recording reference and compared images with two identical optical systems; generating differential images by subtracting the compared image from the reference image and the reference image from the compared image; nulling negative values in the differential images; and determining the distance to the object based on the shift between non-zero fragments of the differential images; wherein the distance between the recording points of each pair of the reference and compared images is successively reduced when objects approach the optical system.
EFFECT: matching the base distance of recording stereo pair frames while optical systems move in space.
