FIELD: production of filtering wool and tobacco smoke filter element. SUBSTANCE: method of production of filtering wool includes spinning of filaments of acetate cellulose from solution of acetate cellulose with acetyl number below 53% in acetone; cutting of filaments into staple fibers, if required, and combination of filaments ad/or staple fibers into filtering wool. Filaments or staple fibers are hydrolyzed so that, at least acetate cellulose on the surface of filaments and staple fibers have also, after treatment, acetyl number less than 53, preferably, less than 49%. The invention also relates to tobacco smoke filter element made of filtering wool and method of production of tobacco smoke filter element. Filtering wool and filter element posses ability of rapid decomposition under the effect of environment, nevertheless, their storage under the common conditions is possible with no hazard of microbiological decomposition.
