FIELD: medicine; ultrasonic examination methods. SUBSTANCE: as image of organ or tissue being examined (parenchymatous organs, heart) is taken, sensing element of apparatus for ultrasonic diagnostics is focused onto large blood vessel or heart cavity disposed in same plane as object being examined. Peak power level of emitted signal is determined, at which prevailing "gray scale" gradation of image region corresponding to section of vessel or heart cavity is equal to 1. Once power level established amplitude-dependent histogram is plotted and analyzed for object being examined (organ or tissue) to determine value of prevailing "gray scale" gradation, latter being used for making judgement on acoustic density of object.
