FIELD: investigation of properties of materials with application of mechanical forces. SUBSTANCE: evaluation of ductility of hardened material is carried out by indentation of pyramidal indenter into tested surface of material with the use of diamond-pointed device with gradual convergence of indentations until cracks appear between them. Ultimate ductility of material with relation to length of crack and diameter of indentations determined at moment of appearance of crack. Method is simple in realization and enables not only ductility as capability for deformation but ultimate ductility of metal at moment of its destruction to be found. EFFECT: improved authenticity and simplicity of method. 5 tbl
