FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of determining tenacity of metal involves: measuring initial length and initial cross sectional area of a specimen before testing; recording absolute elastic and absolute plastic elongation, maximum load and tensile diagram during testing; measuring the final length of the specimen and determination of tenacity of the metal after testing using formula: a=(Ae+Ap)/(FΔLf), where Ae is work done for absolute elastic elongation; Ap is work done for absolute plastic elongation; F is initial cross sectional area of the specimen; ΔLf is final absolute elongation from the diagram.
EFFECT: more accurate quantitative determination of metal tenacity.
