FIELD: spectrophotometric methods in analytical chemistry. SUBSTANCE: solution of aromatic amine (1.5 ± 0.1%) in bipolar aprotic solvent and a mixture of 20 + 1% hydrogen peroxide solution with 0.15 + 0.01 N sodium or potassium hydroxide are successively added to a sample. In the mixture obtained, volume ratio of hydrogen peroxide and alkali solutions is 2:1, and that of sample, aromatic amine, and mixture solutions is 25:1:1. Colorimetric reaction completed, optical density of colored solution is registered at wavelength 420 $$ 2 nm, from which value potassium cyanide content in sample is then estimated. As aromatic amine, o-toluidine and, as bipolar aprotic solvent, acetone are used. EFFECT: improved procedure. 2 cl, 3 tbl
