FIELD: transport engineering; variable-speed drives. SUBSTANCE: V-belt variable speed drive provides automatic change of transmission gear ratio depending on engine speed and resistance to vehicle movement, smooth moving off from halt, automatic change of operating diameters of driving and driven pulleys by means of centrifugal governor and load dog clutch if road conditions change. Novelty, as compared with prototype, is use of two-belt drive instead of single-belt drive and transmission of forces through reverse-reduction gear en-block with final drive on wheelhouse splash shields which leaves large space in engine compartment for installation of additional equipment such as air conditioner, cooler, etc. Novelty is also use of shock absorber for transmission of torque from final drive to driving wheels without modification of standard suspension.
